Hannah – Handmaid Of The Highest
Brother Roger Lewis (Christchurch NZ)
Hannah lived in a time of such spiritual evil that true worship had been corrupted into
wickedness. Fellowship with God at the sanctuary had been made impossible by a
priesthood that disgraced the principle of holiness to the LORD. Despite her own
personal trials, which were sharp and real, Hannah’s whole being yearned for a man-
child to deliver Israel from such a sinful state. So intense was her spirit, and so pure her
wish, that when God blessed her with the son of her desire, she gave him to the nation
as the priest it needed, in an act of amazing self-sacrifice.
Her life would reveal the highest of godly principles, and an example of victory through
sacrifice that would inspire Mary, the mother of Messiah himself. In these studies, we will
discern the spirit of this amazing woman – a passion for the Truth that set her apart from
others, a disposition to prayer that brought her close to God, an ability to set the heart of
her children alight, and a powerful sense of purpose which directed her life.
